From the Halls of
Montezuma—More on SGT Powers, USMC
To all who emailed on this subject. I made two
typos for which I apologize. One misspelling,
Don Strichter, and the Class 7 instead of 6. I
knew better but fingers and brain don't always
get together.
Here is the last word on the SGT Powers
Alan Price Email: I. Dresser, Hughs and
Dishman were in Class 6.
Editor's Note: Sgt Powers
was in Class 6, COR. Don Strichter was
in Class 7 with CPI/s Creech & Henry, only
Henry graduated. Billy D must be thinking of
two other marines who dropped out. Creech
and Henry were with Strichter and Jim
Kline in Class 7. It is Henry who is in the
middle of the not quite back row of the Class 7
photo. It looks like a Marine in the back row of
the Class 6 photo. Yes it is Powers.

Fermin Sims Email: I believe your recent
updated information from Dresser, Hughs,
and Dishman regarding Sgt. Powers having
gone through UDT training in Class 7 COR
with these frogs is incorrect (ED. rightl) They
were in Class 6 COR with myself and Trevor
"Moose" Heard. Moose states that he met with
Powers on several occasions during the later
part of the late 90's in San Diego. Powers was
Moose's swim partner during training and
states that Powers served in Korean and
Vietnam and retired as a full Colonel from the
Marines. Powers may have owned a
construction company in Nevada as indicated
in your article, however Powers was active in
San Diego County as a contractor constructing
custom homes according to Moose.
