The Tin Thorn

The rolling grass resembled painted glass

It seemed to go on forever

The winds entwined viewing the

beauty sublime

Gulf beaches to the furthest reaches

Of Texas all the way to Brownsville

Bison were satisfied and longhorns multiplied

In this vastness where time stood still

You could ride the west wind, call the North Star friend

And look forever in any direction

Freedom knows no bounds on these sacred grounds

And the Sun saw it’s own reflection

The encroachment of man over time span

Produced problems with the Tin Thorn

Suddenly the longhorns were tame; things were not the same

And the west was a world reborn

The old cowboy cried, the buffalo sighed

It was much worst than a prairie fire

The world will never see the way it used to be

Cause they’ve strung the prairie with barbed wire.
