Merrimack River. The Navy hired him to photograph the Texas Towers 100 miles off of  Atlantic Coast. Placed in charge of recovery along with both Navy and New England  mission for Tower 4 collapse 200 feet below seal level.  He coordinated both Navy and New England  Divers in the mission. His team made more than 25 dives to 200 feet below in this mission.
  While promoting Scuba diving, he served  on board of the National Aasn. of Underwater Instruction with Jacques Cousteau, Chair of Massachusetts Governor’s Committee on Scuba diving, Governor’s Marine Fishing Advisory Commission and Governor’s Civil Defense Commission.  Arts and Sciences gave him the distinguished NOGI award for Science, and he was Diver of the Year  Awarded by Boston Sea Rovers in 1958.
  He died in February 28th, 2008. He was born in Salem where he and his wife Mabel
And were lifelong residents North Shore.

 

James R. Perkins

 Chief Perkins (Jimmy Jaws)”  died in his sleep at home 29th February 2008  we learn from his grand daughter Tammy Mayo.   He was born on 22 November 22nd, 1930.  He was 78.
  He and his wife Maxine were married for 58 years.
He told her he was “ready to go”.
  Despite being bedridden from multiple strokes, Jimmy was very alert and fondly remembered his time in the Teams.
  He was active at the UDT/SEAL Museum and his positive and can-do spirit will be dearly missed by all. His wife  Maxine wanted to send you a big Hooyah from Jimmy. Here’s more on Jim From News Journal in his hometown:
